PORT DOUGLAS ACCESSIBLE ACCOMMODATION

 

Hibiscus Resort - 2 Accessible Rooms

Entry into reception:

Entry into reception is all level.  The reception counter does not have a lowered section for wheel chair users, but the management is very obliging and will assist where possible.

Public Areas:

There is good access to most areas, with ramps all around the attractive resort, with the occasional step.  Although actually getting into the pool could be a problem as it has no ramp or chair for wheelchair users and may not be accessible to all guests.  There is an attractive breakfast area set amongst tropical surroundings. The resort also has an adjustable massage table for clients. 

Parking:

There is an undercover car park located not far from the accessible room

Accommodation: 

There is a small patio in front of the accessible guest room, then access into the room itself is level. The door folds right back giving complete access of 1760 mm.  There is a small kitchenette provided for guest convenience, although it is not particularly accessible.  The accessible room has a door clearance of 780mm and has a queen size bed with the widest point beside the bed being 805mm. Under bed clearance is 265mm and the height to the top of the mattress is 630mm. Room furniture can be moved to suit the guest's requirements  The clothes hanging rail is 1600mm from the floor.

Sanitary Facilities:

Entry into the accessible shower and toilet is through a door with a clear width of 781mm. There is also a sliding door from the bedroom.  The shower is fitted with a grab rail which is 830mm from the floor. There is a fixed shower seat provided which is 485mm high, 990mm wide and 408mm deep. The shower head is on a sliding rail and can be reached easily from the seated position. A grab rail is fitted beside the toilet and is mounted 855mm from the floor to top of grab rail.   The toilet seat is 440mm from floor to top of seat and 440mm from wall to centre of seat. The facility is a combined toilet and shower with a dimension of 3556mm long by 2057mm wide.  There is no emergency call system in the bathroom.

General:

There is 24 hour quest service provided. Staff are very friendly and will assist with baggage when required.  Assistance dogs are welcome and may stay with the owner in the room if they are fully registered and trained. Larger print menu and guest information can be provided if requested.

Lazy Lizard Motor Inn - 1 Accessible Room

Parking:

There is an undercover car park located right outside the accessible room (as shown on link below)

Entry into reception:

Entry into reception is up a 120mm step, but the management are happy to put a little removable ramp in place, if necessary.  The reception counter does not have a lowered section for wheel chair users, but the management is very obliging and will assist where possible.

Public Areas:

There is good access to the all areas, although actually getting into the pool could be a problem as it has no ramp or chair for wheelchair users and may not be accessible to all guests.

Accommodation:

The patio of the accessible guest room is off a path which has a small removable ramp in place, then access into the room itself is level. The door is a sliding door which opens easily and is 1135mm wide.  Room furniture can be moved to suit the guest's requirements. There is a small kitchenette provided for guest convenience, although the sink is not

particularly accessible and the gear from the top cupboards will need to put in the lower ones. The accessible room has a single and a queen size bed with the widest point beside the queen size bed being 760mm, although both beds can be moved sideways to allow greater room. Under bed clearance is 120mm and the height to the top of the mattress is 560mm.  The table has a top height of 728mm and an under side clear height of 682mm, but the bench is more accessible with a top height of 755mm and an under side clear height of 695mm.  The clothes hanging rail is 1700mm from the floor.  

Sanitary Facilities:

Entry into the accessible shower and toilet is through a sliding door with a clear width of 800mm.  The facility is a combined toilet and shower with a dimension of 2380mm long by 2070mm wide.  A grab rail is fitted beside the toilets and is mounted 700mm from the floor to top of grab rail. There is only 210mm space from the front of the toilet seat to the grab rail. (as shown) The toilet seat is 425mm from floor to top of the seat and 460mm from wall to centre of seat.

The shower is fitted with a grab rail which is on a slope from 955mm up to 1090mm from the floor. There is an adjustable shower seat provided. The shower has a fixed shower head and a shower head on a rose, which is mounted high, so assistance will be needed to reach it. (as shown) There is no clearance under the sink as there is a cupboard, although the sink is close to the front of the cupboard and it at a height of 800mm.   The base of the mirror is 875mm from the floor.

General:

Staff are very friendly and will assist with baggage when required.  Assistance dogs are welcome and may stay with the owner in the room, if they are fully registered and trained.

Macrossan House- Boutique Holiday Apartments - 1 Accessible Apartment

Parking:

There is an undercover car park located within the property, but there is no lift from the car park to reception. If travelling alone you will have to negotiate the steep driveway or park in the on street accessible car parking.  If travelling by coach or taxi there is an accessible set down area immediately in front of the apartments.

Reception:

Entry to the reception is via a ramp, the ramp width of 1155mm with a good gradient making access easy. Reception is a large tiled level area ample seating. The reception counter does not have a lowered section for wheelchairs; however the friendly and courteous staff are happy to assist if required.

Accommodation:

The accessible guest apartment is on level access with no steps or sills. The doors are easy opening and the door handles are L style levers with a clear opening widths of 760mm. Light switches and outlets are mounted 1090mm from the floor. Room furniture can be moved to suit guest's requirements. There is a small kitchenette provided for guest's convenience.

The accessible bedroom has a queen sized bed with the widest point being 850mm; the bed can be moved sideways to allow greater room. Under bed clearance is approx. 130mm; height to the top of mattress is approx. 540mm . The dinning table has a top height of approx. 725mm and an under side clear height of approx. 711mm. The cloths hanging rail is 1800m from the floor.

Sanitary Facilities:

Entry to the accessible shower and toilet is through a wide door with a clear width of 780mm. There is a 30mm lip leading into the bathroom which may cause an issue for some guests.

The facility is a combined toilet and shower with the dimensions of approx. 3275 long by 1990mm wide. The shower is hob less with a dimension of approx. 1180mm wide by 1284mm long. The shower is fitted with a horizontal grab rail mounted 810mm from the floor, a fold down seat is provided with dimensions of 433mm long by 400mm wide and 477mm above the floor. The shower has a flick mix tap and an adjustable shower rose. A shower commode can be hired from a mobility/ accessibility hire business - see Access Douglas Directory.

Grab rails are fitted to the toilet and are mounted 820mm from the floor to top of grab rail. The toilet seat is 470mm from floor to top of seat and 530mm from the wall to the centre of seat. Clearance to the underside of the sink is approx. 680mm with a top height of 840mm. There is 210mm clear foot space at the base of the vanity unit. The base of the mirror is 1030mm from the floor.

General:

The Owners/Managers and staff are very friendly and will assist with baggage when required. Assistance dogs are welcome and may stay with the owner in the room, however they must be fully registered as Assistance Dogs. No other pets are allowed.

The apartments are located in the heart of Port Douglas with restaurants and shops located at your doorstep. You are only 10minutes walk from the marina where you can board one of the accessible vessels to take you to the reef and an accessible pontoon.

Sheraton Mirage - 4 Accessible Rooms

Parking:

There is no undercover parking available at Sheraton Mirage. If travelling by coach or taxi there is an accessible set down area immediately in front of the resort. 

Entry into reception:

Entry into the resort is from an undercover drive through area which is all level.  Reception is a large tiled level area with ample seating. There is no lowered counter for guests using wheel chairs, but staff will willing to assist.

Access to public areas

There is easy access to the most of the public areas around the resort, with lifts and ramps. The lift in the main lounge and  dining area, has a clear opening of 1000mm, the internal width is 1370mm and the depth is 1000mm. There is no particular access into the pool for people using chairs as they are all lagoon style.

Accommodation:

The accessible guest rooms are on level access with no steps or sills. The doors need slight force to open them and they are fitted with D style levers. The clear opening width of the doors is 740mm.  Room furniture can be moved to suit the guest's requirements.  The accessible bed room has two double beds. The furniture can be moved to allow greater room if needed.  Although there is 1900mm at the widest side of one of the beds.  Under bed clearance is 100mm and the height to the top of the mattress is 590mm.  The desk has a top height of 750mm and an under side clear height of  700mm.  The clothes hanging rail is 1600mm from the floor. It's a very light room with a large window looking onto the garden. There is a bar area with tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

Sanitary Facilities:

Entry into the accessible shower and toilet is through a wide door with a clear width of 860mm.  The facility is a combined toilet and shower.  The shower is hob less and is easily accessible with horizontal and vertical grab rails.  The shower is fitted with a fold down seat that is 460mm long by 400 wide and 510mm above the floor.  The shower has a flick mix tap and adjustable shower rose.  Grab rails are fitted to the toilets and are mounted 810mm from the floor to top of grab rail. The toilet seat is 435mm from floor to top of seat and 450mm from wall to centre of seat.  Please refer to diagram, showing the toilet has only 935mm of space from the corner beside the toilet to the corner near the door, making it a bit tight for front transferrers.

General:

Staff are very friendly and will assist with baggage if required. 24hr guest service is provided for your convenience. Assistance dogs are welcome and may stay with the owner in the room, the dogs must be assistance dogs and be fully registered and trained. No other pets are allowed. Accessible public toilets are available in the resort.  For guests with vision impairment guest information is available in large print format.  Contrast markings are displayed on windows and glass doors.
